Bachelor of Arts Degree
The Pastoral Studies major is an extensive ministerial program seeking to give the prospective local church pastor the tools that he needs to effectively minister in the twenty-first century. Our mentoring program, in conjunction with a well-balanced classroom education, provides a thorough preparation for tomorrow’s pastors.
A thorough knowledge of the Bible will prepare any student for the ministry that God has called them to. This major is for those who desire a more complete understanding of the Word of God, but do not feel a specific call to the pastorate or missions.
Evangelism is at the heart of the Great Commission. This program is designed to prepare men to do the work of an evangelist in an effective way. In addition to getting a solid Bible College education, the evangelism major will learn from veteran evangelists the philosophy, methods, and answers to issues that will enable him to have a fruitful evangelistic ministry.
In the opinion of Indiana Baptist College there is very little difference in the positions of pastor and missionary. Both seek to win, baptize, and disciple people in a localized area under the auspices of the ministry of the local church. Therefore, the course of study for the prospective missionary at IBC includes most of the program of the pastoral major with the addition of courses designed to prepare the candidate for the foreign mission field.
We believe that the Great Commission is directed to both men and women. With this in mind, Indiana Baptist College provides a missions major for women with a choice of emphases that will prepare her for specific work on the mission field. She may choose one major emphasis of thirty hours or two minor emphases that divide the thirty hours. Major emphases offered are music, Christian education and medical missions. Minor emphases available are music, Christian education, and medical missions. The medical missions student would obtain an appropriate medical certification elsewhere and take the specific medical missions classes offered at IBC.
We believe that the Lord established the local church to carry out His work in this dispensation. Indiana Baptist College provides a church ministries major to prepare students for effective work in the local church. The student will receive a solid foundation of Bible and theology and a thorough study of church education. In addition, each student will fulfill two emphases that will develop their gifts for specific work in the local church.
Pastoral & Church Music
The ministry of music in the local church is a vital and Scriptural ministry that requires a special course of study. The men who are instructed in this program will be prepared for many facets of the local church music program, and equipped for pastoral ministry in the church. Eighteen hours of Pastoral/ Music electives are included in this program to give the student flexibility to emphasize either his pastoral or his musical ministry. Pastoral & Church Music majors must pass music minor platform evaluations in their primary proficiency.
Church Music Ministries — Women
Women can have a unique, effective, and scriptural music ministry in the local church. This program prepares the godly lady for useful service in the church, both in the music ministry and in other appropriate ministries. This program differs from the men’s pastoral & church music program in that it replaces courses specifically designed for men, such as Homiletics, Leadership, and Second Man, with courses appropriate for women as Church Education Ministries and the Christian Woman’s Ministry. Ladies working on a B.A. in Church Music Ministries must pass music major platform evaluations in their primary proficiency.
Youth Ministries — Men
Church who call a second man to their pastoral staff often want a man who can work effectively with young people and are proficient to serve the church in another area. Youth Ministries majors will prepare to fill this need by taking one major or two minor proficiencies in addition to their youth ministry courses. Those who choose music as a major emphasis must pass music minor platform evaluations in their primary proficiency.
The general studies bachelors program is designed to give flexibility to a student to prepare for his specific needs and earn a bachelors degree. It gives the student a firm foundation in the core Biblical, general education, and church education requirements of Indiana Baptist College while allowing flexibility through a significant number of electives that the student will plan in conjunction with the academic dean.
Bachelor of Science Degree
The secondary education major prepares the student to be an effective junior high or high school teacher in a Christian school. Because most Christian schools seek teachers proficient in more than one subject area, the student will choose two of the five teaching fields offered by IBC. Those fields are English, history, science, mathematics, and music.
The elementary education major of Indiana Baptist College provides knowledgeable, highly skilled, professional teachers for Christian schools.
This course is designed for those who want to teach music in a Christian school setting on an elementary and secondary level. Music Education majors must pass music major platform evaluations in their primary proficiency.
Associate of Arts Degree
The Biblical Studies associates program focuses strongly on Bible with essential general education and church educations courses rounding out the program. It gives the student a solid Biblical foundation in the framework of a two–year program.
Church Music Ministries
The Church Music Ministries associates program offers a solid foundation for working in church music along with broad background in Bible and preparation in communications related courses.
The Piano Pedagogy associates program prepares the student to teach piano, gives a solid background in Bible, and equips him with communications related courses. Enrollment in the program is contingent on a successful piano audition. Piano Pedagogy majors must pass music major platform evaluations in piano.
The student will receive a basic foundation in Bible, theology, and church ministry to prepare him for service in the local church. He will also choose one emphasis of 12 credits to give him a specialized skill to enhance his ministry.
The General Studies associates program is designed to give flexibility to a student to prepare for his specific needs and earn an associates degree. It gives the student a basic foundation in the core Biblical, general education, and church education requirements of Indiana Baptist College while allowing flexibility through a significant number of electives that the student will plan in conjunction with the academic dean.
Associate of Science Degree
Even though most administrators will require a bachelor’s degree for an elementary teaching position, this degree will equip Christian daycare and preschool teachers. This degree also provides a springboard toward a bachelor’s degree if the student so desires.
The Church secretarial associates program is designed to give the student the background needed to serve effectively as a secretary in a local church. It gives the student a foundation in Bible, essential general education courses, church business courses that develop the skills and knowledge to enable one to be an effective secretary, and the necessary church education courses to understand ministry in a local church.
One - Year Bible Certificate
The One-Year Bible Certificate program is designed to give the student a solid Biblical foundation for his life and ministry in a local church. The courses in the one year Bible program can be applied to other programs at Indiana Baptist College if the graduate chooses to continue his Bible education.
